We need Steve Hammerson for Douglas County Commissioner.
It’s really plain and simple. In Politics, there’s good guys and bad guys. Steve Hammerson is one of the good guys.
First and foremost, Steve is a husband and father. He’s never been a huge fan of politics and politicians, but he loves America and the American flag. He’s the last person who would ever think of himself as a politician. But, in 2023, he joined the Roseburg school board because he couldn’t stand by and let the State of Oregon fill our kids heads full of nonsense. And, you know what? He did exactly what he promised: he protected our kids.
As a school board director, he learned a lot about the going-ons across Douglas County. There’s a lot of money getting spent and not much to show for it. Decisions are made with a lack of transparency. And it seems like we get the same people, the same excuses, with the same results year after year.
Steve has kept his word on the school board. He's refused any personal enrichment, and recognized all conflicts of interest. He’s not trying to build a political career. He’s just showing up, listening, and fixing what’s in front of him. He has campaign promises. To listen to the 70% of Douglas County and recognize term limits pledging a maximum of 3 terms. To refuse to vote to raise taxes for Douglas County citizens. And to refuse to vote to raise his salary during his tenure.
We need elected officials that demonstrate fiscal responsibility. We need elected officials that refuse to vote to fleece Oregon tax payers. We need elected officials that recognize conflict of interest. We need Steve.
Steve thinks it’s time to shine some daylight around here.

Steve thinks our commissioners should put Douglas County first.
He wants to fight State legislature to allow timber harvesting again.
Grow Roseburg and surrounding areas to be a breeding ground for medical providers and robotics and technology.
Steve believes our local leaders should do more listening. He loves listening to veterans, families, and the elderly population.
Steve will push back against state legislation impacting public safety in Roseburg. He is steadfast in defending your 2nd Amendment rights.
Here’s the most important thing about why we need Steve: his strength in character. We all know politics can get corrupted. But not Steve. So, regardless of the challenge, temptation or offer he faces, we know we can count on him to represent us well and stay true to his mission to serve us.
